Located in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, Simley High School had its first graduating class in 1961. The school was named after I.T. Simley, the retired Superintendent of Schools from South St. Paul who served as a consultant to Inver Grove Heights during the district’s transition years. Simley’s first graduating class was the Class of ’61, with 19 graduates. The building connects with Inver Grove Heights Middle School. [1]

I.T. Simley was superintendent for South St. Paul schools. After retiring from this position he became a consultant for the Inver Grove Heights School District. He helped in the building of Inver Grove's first high school. Before this, students from Inver Grove's middle schools would attend South St. Paul High School.
Baseball:
The 1990 Simley baseball team finished runner-up in the Section 3AAA tournament, losing to Cretin-Derham Hall in the finals. The 1991 Simley baseball team won the St. Paul Suburban Conference championship and played in the annual Twin Cities Championship game at the Metrodome, where they were subsequently drilled by Hill-Murray.
Boys Hockey:
The 1991 Simley Boys Hockey team finished the season as Section 3AA runner-ups, losing to the rough and tough east siders from St. Paul Johnson in the section finals when there was only one class in boys hockey. The Boys Hockey team won the Section 3A Championship in 1996, and went on to Consolation Championship at the Minnesota State Tournament that same year. And in 2011, the Spatans are 5-2 with two dramatic OT wins over SPA and St. Paul Johnson. They also like to chirp.-Kemp
Football:
In the fall of 2007, head coach Ray Betton's football team won Classic Suburban Conference championship for the first time in school history.[2] They shared it again with St. Thomas Academy in 2008. Linda Brunsvald replaced Coach Betton in 2009 and has since kept the spartan pride alive.
Wrestling:
The wrestling team won the 2008 state championship in Class AA, then defended its title in 2009 and 2010. [3]
Boys Swimming and Diving:
The Boys' swimming and diving team has been conference and section runners-up for the past seven years and has been Top 10 at the Minnesota State Tournament for the past 11 years. In 2010 the team defeated St. Thomas Academy, Simley's first win over the Cadets, and then went on to defeat them at the state tournament, placing 2nd behind Blake/Breck.
Boys Soccer:
In 2009, the Simley boys soccer team finished 18-2-5 and placed 3rd in the state tournament. They also won the Classic Suburban Conference title.[4]
Simley holds a tradition of academic excellence, exemplified by its several academic clubs.
